This is my review of the GSO focuser. This Crayford type focuser is quite common and is found on many scopes too. You can see in this video in detail what kind of tilt can be introduced into a system. It's not terrible but it's not as good as the other focuser I have tested.

Mirrorsky had and interesting product there that caught my eye. It's a camera that controls the scope through an app on your phone. It works a lot like the DUO Air that ZWO showed this year. With two companies simultaneously coming out with something like this I think we can say this will be a trend tat more companies may fallow. www.mirrosky.com/home

I have been using iOptron mounts for a long time now. When I purchase my first iOptron, the 45 PO it revolutionized my imaging because I was then able to capture much longer exposures. Plus the larger payload was a big help and kept me expanding what kind of imaging rigs I used on it.

    I just got an E-M1X to shoot side by side with my Canons on wedding shoots. This camera is an underrated beast. It’s simply awesome to use, lightning fast AF, great colors, ergonomics. Paired with a PanaLeica 25mm f/1.4 lens and I get crazy sharp results and higher hit rate at wide apertures than with my Canon 50mm L lens.

    Back then, well about 4 or 5 years after you, I was thinking of getting an orion 8"5 optical tube, but sold as a tube they didnt even come with rings and a dovetail, not to mention finder scope and eyepieces, so it really added up (i wouldn't have needed the eyepieces since it would have been scope #3 at the time, but back then when i got a new scope, I would sell the plossls that came with the scope) Since I wanted to also do film astrophotography (back in 2004) and was planning to piggyback my 80mmf11 refractor as a guide scope, i decided to go with the GSO made hardin Star-hoc4 which came with rings, finder and eyepieces. I did have to buy and shim orion rings afterall since the gso rings didnt have any way to piggyback. But yeah, i sold the GSO rings on astromart, as well as the 26 and 9 astrola plossls. I knew I was pushing my skyview pro to the limit, and the faster ratio, shorter focal length, and overal length, were benefits. But visually it got costly, as i needed to start getting some older used nagler and UWA eyepieces, since f4 really needed premium eyepieces. The 8" cost $300, and i had previously bought the SVP127 package because my nexstar 80gtl mount could be modified to take a dovetail, and handle up to a 127mak, which required a tripod upgrade, which i was easy able to rig a surplus tasco starguide 4 tripod (same as nexstar 5 tripod). I had planned it that way so i could have a little 5" visual goto rig, good for outreach as well as a 2nd scope in general when the 8" was being used, or when i was imaging and taking a break, but not wanting to lose my camera focus, I could look through the 5". Imaging was a full time commitment with film and manual guiding, not like later on when i would set up with digital camera and autoguider, once it was up and running I would play with 10" dob.

    Baffled out a turned edge, nice. One thing about cutting your tube is it changes where the light cone intersects the secondary , which may or may not affect field illumination for better or worse

    Excellent! Just what I needed to know. Wish I saw this in 2013 when I started and bought a huge scope. Great advice here. I have been doing OSC cameras and just want to jump into monochrome now with an ASI178 which I picked up cheap since it is discontinued. I have used the 533 and 183 color and just understanding mono now. Can I use an Optolong L'enhance with the mono and get a similar effect with the mono camera that you achieved with the Ha filter? I use the L'enhance with the OSC cameras. I want to slowly use the Monochrome scene. I was thinking of using the 178 as a guide camera besides based on your other video. I need better guiding. Thanks for your insights.

    Thanks for another great video. My first "astro" camera was a Nikon D40. It couldn't be outfitted with an intervalometer so I just timed exposures on my cell phone. That was the camera I already had and worked great as a learning tool since there were so many other aspects to learn.

    I am new to astrophotography (like a month) and have been receiving treatment for over 5 years. My condition is called "Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia" which is an untreatable bone marrow cancer. At the time of diagnosis, the oncologist said the condition existed years before I began treatment and did not seek treatment until the condition worsened. But with prayer and a loving wife I have been able to survive though many others die within five years. So be encouraged, I understand. We are not alone. My prayers are with you and your family. Keep up the good work!

    • @santiagomadruga4298
      @santiagomadruga4298 11 дней назад

      Askar is more expensive, so probably something better. However, looking at the whole system, the difference between both are probably minor in post-processing. It's amazing how post-processing programs can improve an imaging. Also, for the difference of price one can be a better mount which is in real life more important than small differences in telescopes.

    • @3dfxvoodoocards6

      @@santiagomadruga4298 if its more expensive it does not necessarily mean its also better. And the price difference is mininal anyway.

    For reference, that tilt plate completely de-couples the primary mirror from the focuser. What it boils down to, it is the only true way to collimate your RC scope, and hold the collimation. Those small "tilt ring" adapters that get screwed on? Throw them in the trash - they are worthless. This also completely eliminates focuser tilt (if you have a good focuser) by using M6 bolts to hold the image train, vs the factory M4 collimation screws holding both the primary, AND your image train. Now the M4 factory bolts hold just the primary. Alex has the very first or second prototype made. The design has been streamlined into a kit that can be sent home, and you just need a few tools to install it. It can be done on the tailgate of a truck. Mine held collimation over 4000 miles in the back of my truck during the eclipse. Source: I make them.

    I bought my RC used, and out of collimation (of course). I though I collimated it quite well - donuts seemed to be perfectly round, but then I realised I cannot get it into good focus under high magnification - it looks like it has some serious spherical aberrations, so now I need to plate solve an image to find how much off it is from its native focal length, move secondary mirror, do it probably few more times, and then collimate the secondary again. When other scopes just work, RC one is a challenge itself, but I like it.

    I am new to this guide scope business and just bought the ASI220MM-Mini. Nothing but trouble. It does not work with APT, SharpCap, or PHD2 without an extraordinary amount of back and forth playing. The only way I was able to get an image on SharpCap was after I had connected the ASI220 to APT and turned on LiveView. With APT LiveView on an image immediately appeared on the SharpCap screen. Starting APT first was the only way to get an image with PHD2. Too many headaches with this guide camera.
